PCB In Talks With Shane Watson And Darren Sammy For Coaching Positions

PCB aims to finalize a coaching appointment by the beginning of April. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has approached former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson to become the national team’s coach on a long-term basis.

After parting ways with Mohammad Hafeez following a challenging series in Australia and New Zealand, the board aims to finalize the coaching appointment by the end of the month. The goal is to have the new coach on board for New Zealand’s tour to Pakistan in April.

Watson’s success as the head coach of Quetta Gladiators in the ongoing Pakistan Super League has impressed the PCB, showcasing strong interpersonal relationships in a limited time. However, the potential appointment remains uncertain at this point.

The ex-cricketer is presently serving as the head coach of the San Francisco Unicorns in Major League Cricket, and he holds a contract with Star Sports for ICC events and the Indian Premier League.

The discussions revolve around his current commitments, and it remains to be seen if PCB would provide him with a flexible role similar to what Micky Arthur had during his tenure with the national team.

PCB is in talks with West Indies legend Darren Sammy, currently coaching in PSL

PCB is reportedly in discussions with ex-cricketer Darren Sammy, known for his significant contributions to Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

However, complications arise as Sammy is the current head coach of West Indies, co-hosting the upcoming T20 World Cup. Convincing him to leave his home country’s coaching role before the World Cup proves challenging, but PCB is making efforts to persuade Sammy.

Presently, PCB is seeking both a permanent and temporary coach, which adds complexity to the situation. Many former players currently have commitments with franchise clubs globally, making it challenging for them to vacate their positions.
