The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is preparing to assign Test captain Shan Masood an additional responsibility beyond the field, inviting him to assume the position of Director of International Cricket Operations. This development comes as Shan continues to lead the national side in the ongoing 2025–27 World Test Championship cycle.

Despite the PCB having only recently opened applications for the role—with November 2 as the deadline—internal deliberations have already placed Shan as the frontrunner. Sources indicate that the board has largely agreed he is the ideal candidate to oversee the international cricket operations division.

Earlier reports suggested that former captain and ex-head coach Misbah-ul-Haq was among the names being considered for the position. However, sources have clarified that Misbah declined the opportunity owing to existing professional commitments, effectively paving the way for Shan Masood to become the frontrunner for the role.

“For the time being whenever he takes over as director he will continue to play cricket, but apparently, he has also shown his interest in the position as he meets all the criteria for the position and in the advertisement,” the source said.

Shan Masood Stars Against South Africa

Masood recently led Pakistan in the two-match Test series against South Africa, which concluded in a 1-1 stalemate. Pakistan took the early lead with a dominant 93-run win at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, but South Africa leveled the series by securing an eight-wicket victory in the second Test at Rawalpindi.

The left-handed batter, who has also represented Pakistan in nine ODIs and 19 T20Is, showcased consistent form with the bat, emerging as the team’s second-highest run-getter. He accumulated 170 runs across the two Tests at an average of 42.50, highlighted by a fine knock of 87 in the first innings at Rawalpindi.

Following the series, Pakistan hold the fourth spot in the ongoing World Test Championship standings, with 12 points and a 50 percent points percentage.
