“Pressure Gets To Them…”: Ex-Pakistan Captain Brutally Criticizes Rohit Sharma’s Failure To Deliver

In a candid statement, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has expressed his belief that Rohit Sharma needs to improve his performance under pressure situations ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023.

Butt pointed out that Rohit has not been delivering in high-pressure moments for quite some time, and it’s an area that requires attention and improvement.

While Rohit had a successful outing against West Indies in the Test series, his performance in the three-match ODI series was limited, and he did not get many opportunities to bat.

After India lost five wickets, Rohit came in to bat and was subsequently rested for the next two games of the series.

It’s worth noting that Rohit has missed several white-ball matches, and his most recent ODI century was scored in January 2023 against New Zealand in Indore.

Regarding the prospects of Ishan Kishan opening the innings for India in the World Cup, Butt mentioned that the young player could be an option if Rohit continues to struggle in white-ball cricket.

This raises questions about Rohit’s ability to perform under pressure, especially during crucial knockout stages of tournaments.

Rohit Sharma showcasing his skills for the Indian cricket team

During an interaction on his YouTube channel, Butt acknowledged that Rohit is a key player, but he emphasized that some players, despite their experience and reputation, falter when the pressure mounts.

Butt’s observation implies that Rohit needs to work on his mental and technical aspects to ensure better performances during crucial stages of matches.

Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan showcased his potential as he emerged as the top performer for India in the ODI series against West Indies, scoring three half-centuries in as many matches.

With Rishabh Pant out of contention for the World Cup, Kishan is among the top contenders for the wicket-keeper batter position in the India playing XI.

As India prepares to face West Indies in a five-match T20I series in Trinidad, Rohit Sharma will be rested along with other senior cricketers, and the team will be led by Hardik Pandya.

This decision to rest Rohit further highlights the importance of improving his performances under pressure to maintain his position as a crucial player in the team’s campaign for the ICC World Cup 2023.
