With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic which has already resulted in an economic loss to the entire world, another disaster awaited the state of Maharashtra last week when Cyclone Nisarga hit parts of Maharashtra which aggravated the problems even more in the rural areas.
India’s Test opener Prithvi Shaw, who has been locked down in Dhokawade village near Mandwa (Alibaug), approximately 110 km from Mumbai is one of the places where the damage could not be controlled. The young cricketer has come in help of stranded villagers providing aid & sigh of relief to the villagers.
Prithvi Shaw provides aid to villagers in Alibaug
The cricketer from Mumbai has been helping them fix the blown away roofs and has also been providing financial assistance to the villagers of Dhokawade when needed. Politician Sanjay Potnis at whose farmhouse Prithvi Shaw has been staying since last 2 months admitted the news.
“Yes, they [Shaw and Yash] have been in Alibaug since the lockdown. The cyclone was pretty bad there. The entire village was badly affected. The roofs of houses were destroyed. Even my bungalow suffered some damage,” Sanjay said.
Prithvi and my son witnessed the difficulties of the villagers and decided to help. He has not only helped them put the roofs back on their houses, but he also provided financial assistance to some of the needy villagers,” he added.
This does show that other than being a hugely talented player, Prithvi Shaw has a tremendous understanding of social work & helping people at such a very young age. It shows how matured Prithvi is at the age of 20. Meanwhile, Prithvi’s father after looking at the good deeds his son has been doing said that he has seen the hardships in life.
“Prithvi has come up the hard way. He has seen difficult days when he was climbing the ranks as a cricketer and that’s why he empathises with people who are struggling in life,” he said.
Prithvi keeping himself fit
At the same time, Prithvi Shaw, who has been stuck in a village away from Mumbai has managed to get in some practice & fitness on the cement track build at the farmhouse of Sanjay Potnis.
“Prithvi has been facing some throwdowns from my son and a couple of other guys there. He has also been working on his fitness there,” said Potnis.
All eyes will be on Prithvi Shaw as he will mark his return by playing for Delhi Capitals & India’s Test team as cricket resumes post the COVID-19 pandemic.
