Prithvi Shaw Opens Up On Missing Out On IPL 2025

India’s explosive opener Prithvi Shaw was one of the prominent players who went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Reflecting on the snub, the 25-year-old admitted he had anticipated not being picked. The former Delhi Capitals batter shared that he didn’t even watch the auction and had mentally prepared himself for the outcome.

In an interview with News24 Sports, Shaw revealed (from 22:07):

“I saw it coming. I can understand those things. When I was dropped from Mumbai, from there itself, I could see that these things are going to happen and I have to be ready for it.”

Prithvi Shaw opens up about losing focus on cricket

Prithvi Shaw admitted that falling into bad company led to his decline, affecting his focus and practice. Once seen as a rising star, he went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction and lost his spot in Mumbai’s team. His remarks came during a News24 Sports interview (from 4:38):

“Only I know what has happened. I have made many wrong decisions in my life. I feel I started giving less time to cricket. Earlier, I used to bat in the nets for three to four hours, and half of my day used to be spent on the ground till 2023. After that, I started considering things that were not that important. I made some wrong friends who started taking me here and there. I got distracted during that time.”

Shaw said he cut ties with those friends after realizing his mistake and now prefers staying home over going out (from 6:46):

“I have left everything, like friendships and a lot of stuff, aside. I don’t even like going out at all these days. The paparazzi are also there. Even if you go to a normal restaurant, they are present. The perspective about me now is that I am always out. But they don’t know that it could be a family dinner, or if I am out for bowling.”
