Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Prithvi Shaw had been in lethal form since the start of IPL 2022. However, he was hospitalized because of illness and is unlikely to be available for the team’s last two league games.
Incidentally, Prithvi Shaw shared a couple of stories where he thanked all fans for the love and support from the hospital bed. He missed a couple of matches and now Delhi Capitals assistant coach Shane Watson has revealed that he is unlikely that Prithvi Shaw will be available for the remaining league games.
“I don’t know his diagnosis exactly,” Watson told the Grade Cricketer on Thursday. “But he has just had this underlying fever for the previous couple of weeks, which they’ve had to really get to the bottom of it to find out exactly what it was. It’s not looking great for him to be available for the last couple of games, which is a big shame because he is an incredibly skilful young batter taking the best bowlers in the world down a lot of the time.”
Since Prithvi Shaw’s absence, Delhi Capitals have tried a couple of openers alongside David Warner, but it has worked in their favour.
“It’s a big loss for us” – Shane Watson on Prithvi Shaw’s absence
The absence of Prithvi Shaw will be a big loss for the side as he is known for providing breathtaking start in the powerplay overs. He is also vital in maintaining the balance of the side. The former Australian all-rounder underlined that absence of Shaw will hurt them in the remaining matches.
“It’s a big loss for us to not have him. The last couple of weeks he has been under the weather. Hopefully, he gets back to full health soon, but unfortunately, it’s not going to be in time for the minimum of last two games that we’ve got,” Shane Watson added.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals are still in the race for IPL 2022 playoffs after thrashing Rajasthan Royals last night. They will play Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians in their last two must-win matches.
