Prithvi Shaw Steals The Show, Smashes A 23-Ball Fifty

Prithvi Shaw, long overlooked in the Indian cricket setup, delivered a powerful reminder of his talent during Maharashtra’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy clash against Hyderabad. Making his captaincy debut, Shaw hammered a sparkling 66 off 36 balls, completing his fifty in just 23 deliveries. His innings, decorated with nine boundaries and three towering sixes, helped Maharashtra chase down a stiff target of 192 with eight balls to spare and only two wickets lost.

The win gave Maharashtra a much-needed boost after a disappointing outing against Jammu and Kashmir earlier in the week. While Shaw’s explosive knock set the tone, the spotlight was shared with young Arshin Kulkarni, whose unbeaten 89 off 54 balls—featuring 12 fours and two sixes—ultimately guided the team comfortably across the line.

A Fresh Start After Turbulent Years

Once hailed as India’s next big batting sensation, Shaw has been on a journey of revival. After inconsistent form and off-field issues disrupted his career, the 26-year-old made a bold move by shifting from Mumbai to Maharashtra this season. The change appears to have worked in his favour as he has already accumulated an impressive 470 runs in just five matches, including a monumental 222 against Chandigarh in the Ranji Trophy.

Prithvi Shaw, who first made headlines as captain of India’s victorious 2018 Under-19 World Cup team, had debuted in the Ranji circuit for Mumbai back in 2017. But the past few years saw him drift away from the national radar, eventually going unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Determined to rebuild, he kicked off his Maharashtra stint with a century against Chhattisgarh in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament. His official Ranji Trophy debut for Maharashtra against Kerala was a mixed bag, starting with a four-ball duck before bouncing back with a composed 75 in the second innings.

Eyeing Redemption Ahead of IPL 2026 Auction

Shaw’s resurgence has come at a crucial juncture as franchises prepare for the IPL 2026 mini auction scheduled in Abu Dhabi on December 16. His recent performances, especially his aggressive batting in the T20 format and consistency across domestic tournaments, make him a strong contender to attract interest.

With Maharashtra offering him the fresh environment he needed, Shaw is steadily rebuilding both form and confidence. His powerful knocks are not only reviving his reputation but also sending a clear message to IPL teams: Prithvi Shaw is ready for a comeback, hungrier and sharper than before.
