Ahead of IPL 2025, the Punjab Kings have set their sights on a social media frenzy by mildly roasting the Chennai Super Kings and its legendary captain, MS Dhoni. This off-field banter has surprised fans because the teams have a fierce rivalry on the field. With Dhoni’s retirement being one hot topic of discussion, speculation reached boiling point when he was spotted in Chennai wearing a T-shirt with a Morse code. A social media user translated the text to mean “One Last Time,” which set the chatter in motion that Dhoni may retire at IPL 2025.
The translated text: ONE (— -. .) LAST (.-.. .- … -) TIME (- .. — .) As the rumor mill churned, emotional CSK supporters flooded social media expressing their emotions about possibly watching their favorite ‘Thala’ play for the last time. There has been no validation or negation from Dhoni himself about any of these rumors.
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings decided to mock CSK a bit. Posting a Morse code message of their own featuring pacer Arshdeep Singh, they challenged the fans to crack the code.

The jab only got the fans of both camps rallying behind their favorites ever so much more, intensifying the competition of the two franchises. CSK and PBKS share a long and turbulent history of competition. CSK and PBKS have met 30 times in the IPL, with CSK having a narrow advantage with 16 wins, whereas Punjab is almost there with 14 wins.
The rivalry has given us some close encounters, and Punjab will want to make this narrative interesting this season. MS Dhoni is now 43 and will be the oldest player to play in IPL 2025. The iconic wicketkeeper-batter has been a part of the league since its inception in 2008.
He might have retired from international cricket in 2020, but he still matters in the IPL. Dhoni remains the greatest amongst captains and finishers; equally unparalleled is his legacy. He has led CSK to five IPL titles, jointly most with Rohit Sharma, scoring 5243 runs in 264 matches at the stupendous average of 39.12, with a strike rate of 137.53.
As the IPL 2025 season approaches, the fans will be looking with bated breath on whether Dhoni will finally take his call on retirement and if the Punjab Kings will embark on bettering their arch-rivals.
