Punjab Kings (PBKS) were not too eager during the IPL 2026 auction on Tuesday and just added four new names to their roster. The franchise, focusing on certain positions in the squad, implemented the policy of stability rather than experimenting after the successful 2025 campaign, where they finished second. Through the acquisition of two Australian players, one of whom is the all-rounder Cooper Connolly and the other being the left-arm pacer Ben Dwarshuis, both of whom were seen as the team’s strategic additions for the following season, PBKS’ major purchases were completed.
During the accelerated rounds, PBKS’s first acquisition happened when they signed up Cooper Connolly for ₹3 crore. The young Australian all-rounder is a six-hitting machine, and his effective left-arm spin offers the team the precious batting depth and also the bowling capacity. He is very good at matching the changing moods of a game and hence is an even more attractive addition to the team’s composition, especially on spinning tracks.
But the team’s most expensive player was the left-arm pacer, Ben Dwarshuis, who came to PBKS for ₹4.40 crore. The senior left-arm pacer brings in control, wicket-taking ability, and death-over reliability, which were precisely the qualities PBKS was looking for when they planned to upgrade their bowling department. Thus, in the end, Punjab stayed true to their raging focus on broadening their tactical base at the cost of merely splendid signings.

The stunned PBKS team, who came so close to winning the trophy with a last-over loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by just six runs after a very successful season under captain Shreyas Iyer, rides with a guaranteed optimism to the IPL 2026, which is nothing short of a miracle for the franchise. Breaking the eleven-year-long playoff jinx and getting to the finals was a huge turnaround for the team even though it narrowly lost to RCB. With their core group still intact and smart reinforcements in place, the team will look to keep moving up the ladder in 2026.
