After an impressive show for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2020, Rahul Tewatia has finally found a place in the Indian T20 squad for the T20 series against England. Rahul Tewatia shot to fame during the game against Kings XI Punjab at Sharjah Cricket Stadium where Tewatia smashed pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in one over to eventually take the Royals to a thrilling win from an almost impossible situation.

Rahul Tewatia wasn’t the only one as Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav also found a place in the Indian side. The all-rounder who bats left-handed and bowls leg-spin is highly rated by Shane Warne in the Royals’ camp which makes him a bright player to watch out for. Tewatia will now fight for a place in the playing XI as his competition would be Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel if the current squad is taken under consideration.

‘The level of competition for spinners in the Haryana team is one of the toughest’ – Rahul Tewatia

The all-rounder described the difficulties in outperforming similar players in the stateside like the likes of Amit Mishra, Jayant Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal. Tewatia said the competition of spinners in the Haryana side is toughest if all Indian states are taken into consideration.

“Imagine fighting it out for a place in the team which has legends like Amit Mishra bhai. Then you had Jayant Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal has also represented the state team whenever he has not been busy playing for India. The level of competition for spinners in the Haryana team is one of the toughest I would say. Finding a place and performing for Haryana not only gave me confidence but also helped me back my skills,” Rahul Tewatia explained.

He further added how excited he is to share the dressing room with the Indian skipper Virat Kohli as he’s been regarded as one of the best players in the World at the moment. He is looking forward to learning and understands how players like Virat Kohli compete at the highest level in World cricket.

“So far, I played against Virat Kohli in the IPL. Now I will play with him and share the dressing room with him. Cannot wait to share the dressing room with him and some of the best cricketers in world cricket. It will be all about learning from them and understanding how they compete against the best in the business and succeed,” he smiled.
