The fifth T20I between India and South Africa was abandoned due to heavy rains at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday, June 19. The teams shared the five-match T20I series 2-2.
Earlier in the match, Keshav Maharaj walked out to lead the South African team as Temba Bavuma suffered an injury last match. He won the toss and asked India to bat first.Ā As the Indian openers, Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad got ready to walk out to bat, rain delayed the start of the play.
However, the game restarted after a few minutes, reducing it to a 19-over affair. South Africa managed to dismiss both the Indian openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan cheaply inside the first four overs. Lungi Ngidi bowled Ishan Kishan for 15 runs, while he dismissed Gaikwad for 10 runs. As Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer began their partnership, rain interrupted play again. However, this time a heavy downpour resulted in the match getting abandoned.
