In a crucial encounter at the Wankhede Stadium, Rajasthan Royals secured their position in the Indian Premier League playoffs. Rajasthan Royals registered a decisive 30-run victory over Mumbai Indians in match 69 of the tournament. With this result, the visitors concluded the league stage with 16 points, setting up an Eliminator clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to field first. Rajasthan Royals capitalized on the opportunity to build a substantial total, finishing their 20th over at 205 for the loss of 8 wickets. The opening partnership initiated by Yashasvi Jaiswal provided immediate momentum, as he scored an aggressive 27 runs off 17 deliveries.
Despite regular breakthroughs by the Mumbai bowling attack, Rajasthan maintained a high scoring rate. Wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel anchored the middle order with a team-high score of 38 runs off 26 balls. In the lower-order, Jofra Archer contributed an impactful cameo of 32 runs from just 15 deliveries, while Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 19.

It’s disheartening to see Mumbai Indians out of the playoffs. Not just because they failed to qualify, but because the team never really showed the fight and intensity MI has always been known for.

Rohit Sharma Falls for Duck as Chahar, Thakur Pick Two Wickets Each for MI
For Mumbai Indians, Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur claimed 2 wickets each, but conceded 43 and 41 runs respectively. The run chase for Mumbai Indians began poorly under strict bowling discipline from Rajasthan. Opening batsman Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a duck by Jofra Archer in the first over.
Mumbai was quickly reduced to 24 for the loss of 3 wickets within the powerplay. Suryakumar Yadav led a resilient recovery, scoring a commendable 60 runs off 42 deliveries, which included three boundaries and four sixes. He was supported by Will Jacks, who scored 33 runs from 18 balls, and Hardik Pandya, who contributed a quickfire 34 off 15 balls.
However, the asking rate proved insurmountable after Archer dismissed Pandya in the 16th over. Nandre Burger subsequently dismissed Suryakumar Yadav, effectively ending Mumbai’s resistance. Mumbai Indians were restricted to 175 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs.
Jofra Archer was named the Player of the Match for his exceptional spell of 3 wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs. Bowlers Yash Raj Punja, Nandre Burger, and Brijesh Sharma also claimed two wickets each to ensure a comprehensive victory for Rajasthan Royals.
