Team India registered an emphatic series win against New Zealand in the recently concluded three-match ODI series on Tuesday, January 24 at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. They whitewashed the series, winning the third ODI by 90 runs. Team India went into the game with the XI, as the local boy Rajat Patidar had to sit out.

Skipper Rohit Sharma was asked about Rajat Patidar not getting a chance in the XI at his home ground in Indore. He replied with a witty remark during the post-match press conference. Rohit expressed that the Indian batting order is solid, boasting the likes of Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav. He said,

“We will play him if there’s a place, Sir. There is a Virat Kohli at number 3, and Ishan Kishan at number 4, who sat out after scoring a double century. Suryakumar Yadav is at number 5 and the whole world knows what he is doing and there’s a Hardik Pandya at number 6. So, there should be a space.”

We want everyone to play, but that cannot happen: Rohit Sharma

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma further expressed that the team too wishes to give opportunities to all the players, however, given the talent that they have, it is not possible. He quipped by the logic of getting a chance at the home ground, Ishan Kishan too will ask for a chance in Ranchi in the upcoming T20I series. Rohit Sharma said,

“We want everyone to play, but that cannot happen until we have enough space. I know we should have played him in Indore…Ranchi, Jharkhand mein Ishan Kishan bhi bolega mujhe bhi khilaao yaar mein Ranchi ka hu (In Ranchi, Jharkhand, Ishan Kishan will say he should play as he is from Ranchi). It doesn’t happen like that. We have a plan, the boys will get a chance…many are waiting in line.”

The three-match T20I series between India and New Zealand will begin on Friday, January 24 at the JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi.
