Rangana Herath rejected a coaching contract extension from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The former Sri Lankan spinner had previously joined BCB as a spin bowling coach in December 2021 under a two-year agreement that concluded in late 2023. Following the expiration of his contract, BCB officials contacted Rangana Herath about taking on a new position as a spin mentor.
This prospective role would involve him collaborating with the country’s spinners for 200 days annually. While initially interested, Herath opted to consult with his legal advisors before providing a final response. BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus confirmed last night that Herath has turned down the offer. According to Cricbuzz, Yunus stated:
“Herath is not with us. The offer we made to him (Herath) he did not accept and so he is no more with us.”
In addition to Herath, fielding coach Shane McDermott has departed from the coaching staff. Furthermore, the BCB has issued job advertisements for roles including strength and conditioning coach, batting coach, assistant coach, pace bowling coach, and team analyst.
The Bangladesh team has not participated in any international matches in the year 2024 so far
Despite more than a month passing in 2024, the Bangladesh men’s team has not participated in any international matches this year. Official dates for their matches, leading up to the T20 World Cup 2024, are yet to be announced.
Prominent players are engaged in BPL 2024, while the younger talents represent the nation in the ICC U19 World Cup 2024. The future of Bangladesh cricket remains intriguing. According to the ICC’s FTP, the Tigers are set to play two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is against Sri Lanka at home, and fans are eagerly awaiting the schedule for this tour.
