The new season of the Ranji Trophy started today with 24 matches played today. It was a great start to the tournament with Prashant Chopra remaining not out on 271. The established Indian players failed to perform. Here we look at the 1st day round

Group A

Railways vs. Uttar Pradesh ( Lucknow)

It was a good day for Uttar Pradesh bowlers dismissing Railways for 182. Uttar Pradesh ended day 1 on 9 for 0.

Uttar Pradesh 9 for 0 trail Railways 182 in 76 overs ( Ashish Yadav 53*, NS Bhile 42, AS Rajpoot 3/30, Zeeshan Ansari 3/78) by 173 runs.

Delhi vs. Assam (Delhi)

It was a good display by Delhi bowlers who restricted Assam to 224 for 7 on the first day. Ishant Sharma performed well for Delhi taking 3/31.

Saurashtra vs. Haryana ( Lahli, Rohtak)

It was a decent day for both teams as Saurashtra ended the first day on 271 for 7. The captain Chetewshwar Pujara scored 35 while Uthappa failed with bat scoring just 7 runs.

Jharkhand vs. Kerala (Thiruvananthapuram)

Jharkhand won the toss and elected to bat first. It was a good bowling performance by Kerala bowlers who restricted Jharkhand to just 200 for 9. Ishan Kishan was the top scorer with 45.

Rajasthan vs. Jammu and Kashmir (Jaipur)

Jammu and Kashmir captain Parvez Rasool won the toss, elected to field first. The Rajasthan batsmen made use of good batting pitch ending the day on 249 for 4. Robin Bist remained not out on 105

Group C 

Tamil Nadu vs. Andhra Pradesh (Chennai)

Tamil Nadu batted first and was not able to score much as they were bowled out for just 176. Murali Vijay, Mukund, Ashwin failed to contribute. Andhra Pradesh ended the first day on 8 for 0 in 3 overs

Madhya Pradesh vs. Baroda (Indore)

Baroda captain Irfan Pathan won the toss and elected to field. Madhya Pradesh captain Devendra Bundela was dismissed for 99 while SS Sharma remained not out on 88. Madhya Pradesh ended day 1 on 268 for 5.

The match did not start due to wet outfield.

Himachal Pradesh vs. Punjab (Dharamshala)

Himachal Pradesh captain Sumeet Verma won the toss and batted first at Dharamshala. Prashant Chopra played one of the best knocks of the day with 271 not out. HP ended the first day on a mammoth 459 for 2

Services vs. Bengal ( Delhi)

Services captain NH Verma won the toss and fielded first at Palam Ground, Delhi. It was an amazing display of batting by Bengal batsmen to put on 341 for 3 with a century from Sudip Chatterjee.

Goa vs. Chhattisgarh ( Porvorim)

The last match of the day saw Goa take on Chhattisgarh at Porvorim. Only 76 overs were possible today. Chhattisgarh could only score 189 for 5.
