It was an amazing day on the 1st day of fourth-round matches in Ranji Trophy matches that started today. Kerala, Gujarat, Maharashtra were dismissed on the first day itself.
In Group A Railways took on Hyderabad. It was a great batting display by Hyderabad ending the first day 1 in a strong position at 272 for 3 with Rayadu scoring 88, B Sandeep 64. In the second match, Uttar Pradesh took on Delhi at Palam A Stadium, Delhi. Delhi bowled with great control and restricted UP to 270 for 8. Suresh Raina again failed to contribute any runs. Mohammad Saif was the top scorer with 83 runs along with AD Nath 59 and UD Yadav 48 showed great resistance.
In the final match of Group A, Maharashtra took on Karnataka at MCA Stadium, Pune. The visitors Karnataka won the toss and elected to field first. Vinay Kumar finished with figures of 6/59 bowling Maharashtra for 245. For the hosts, Rahul Tripathi scored a quickfire 120 and Sheikh scored 69 runs. Karnataka ended day 1 on 117 for 0.
In Group B, Sauhastra took on Jharkhand at Rajkot. Indian test specialist played captains knock for the hosts remaining not out on 125. Saurashtra ended the day in a strong position at 341 for 5. Kerala took on Jammu and Kashmir in the second match at Thiruvananthapuram. Kerala won the toss and batted first. Sanju Samson scored a brilliant ton while J and K captain Rasool 5 wicket haul bowled out Kerala for 219. J and K ended day 1 on 16 for 0.
The defending Champions Gujarat took on Haryana at Valsad. Gujarat was bowled out for 236 in the first innings. BH Merai was the top scorer for Gujarat with 52 runs and Chawla scored quick fire 36 runs. Amit Mishra took 4/63 for Haryana. Haryana day ended day 1 on 0 for 1.
In Group, Andhra Pradesh took on Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh was invited to bat first by Andhra Pradesh. MP ended the day 1 on 219 for 5 with SS Sharma the top scorer with 60 runs.
Baroda took on Tripura at Reliance Stadium, Vadodara. For Baroda, VP Solanki scored a brilliant century with 116 and Karambelkar remained not out on 75. The hosts ended day 1 on 304 for 5. The final match of Group C saw Mumbai took on Odisha. Prithvi Shaw scored a brilliant century. Rahane also scored 49. Despite his 100, Mumbai ended day 1 on 264 for 6.
In Group D, Himachal Pradesh took on Bengal at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. A Raman scored 176 while Manoj Tiwary remained not out on 78 helping Bengal to end day 1 on 306 for 5.
Chhattisgarh took on Punjab at Raipur. It was a great bowling display by Punjab to bowl out Chhattisgarh at 238. The top order of Chhatisgarh could not contribute much. Kushwah scored 76, Jatin Saxena 52, Ruikar 50 helped the hosts to post 238. At the end of day 1, Punjab were 57 for 1.
The final match of the day saw Vidarbha took on Services at Nagpur. Vidarbha batted first and ended the first day on 259 for 3. Captian Faiz Faizal remained not out on 128.
