Rashid Khan created another major milestone as he became the 2nd bowler to pick 500 T20 wickets. He achieved this feat in the inaugural edition of the SAT20 tournament for Mumbai Indians Cape Town against Pretoria Capitals at Newlands, Cape Town on 23 January 2023.

Kusal Mendis and Will Jacks provided a flying start for Pretoria Capitals putting on 88 runs for the opening wicket. Rashid Khan got the breakthrough dismissing Kusal Mendis. Khan then dismissed Rilee Rossouw. He then dismissed Clyde Fortuin cheaply to end with figures of 3 for 16 in just 4 overs. With the wicket of Fortuin, Rashid Khan achieved the milestone of 500 T20 wickets at the age of just Pretoria Capitals ended with a competitive total of 182 for 8 in 20 overs. Despite his performances, Mumbai Indian Cape Town were bowled out for 130.

Rashid Khan made his T20 debut in 2015. He has played for Adelaide Strikers in BBL, Barbados Tridents, Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in CPL, Comilla Victorians in BPL, Durban Heat, Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL, Lahore Qalandars in PSL, Sussex in Natwest T20 Blast, Kabul Zwanan.

Rashid Khan has also been the backbone of the Afghanistan team in the T20I format. He made his T20I debut in 2015 and is the leading wicket-taker with 120 wickets. Known for his variations, he produced some magical spells across T20 leagues around the world. Before this match, Rashid was on 497 runs wickets from 370 matches ( 367 innings) at an economy of 6.39 runs per over with best figures of 6/17.

His ability to bowl in crunch situations makes him a special bowler. Rashid Khan was the leading wicket-taker for Adelaide Striker in BBL 07 and BBL 08. He has played 69 BBL matches with 98 wickets at an economy of 6.44 runs per over and with best figures of 6 for 17.

Rashid Khan achieved a major milestone of 500 T20 wickets at the age of only 24 years. The rockstar of the T20 format also became the fastest to grab 400 wickets in the T20 format.  Dwayne Bravo became the first bowler to grab 500 scalps in the shortest format.

Rashid Khan’s performance in IPL 

Rashid Khan made his IPL debut in 2017 for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has been a consistent performer for SRH with 17 wickets from 14 matches during the 2017 season, 21 wickets from 17 matches in the 2018 season where SRH reached the finals, 17 wickets from 15 matches during the 2019 season, 20 wickets from 16 matches during the 2020 season, 18 wickets from 14 matches during 2021.

He was bought by Gujarat Titans in the 2022 season. Khan continued his brilliant performance with 19 wickets from 16 matches at an economy of 6.60 runs per over. He played a key role in helping GT win the title on their maiden occasion.
