Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan is struggling with a back injury and will miss the Big Bash League 2023-24 season, which begins on December 7. He will undergo surgery to treat back injury. Adelaide Strikers announced Rashid Khan’s unavailability for the upcoming season of the T20 league.

Rashid Khan has taken 98 wickets in 69 matches with remarkable figures of 6-17 in the Big Bash League. He has also scored 403 runs in the tournament. His absence will be a major blow to the Adelaide Strikers. They expressed that the spinner will be “extremely missed”. The Adelaide Strikers have not announced a replacement at this stage. They have Ben Manenti as a spin bowling option in their team for the season.

“Rashid is a beloved member of the Strikers and a fan favourite who has been with us for seven years, so he will be extremely missed this summer,” said Adelaide Strikers GM, Cricket Tim Nielsen in a statement released by the franchise.

“Rashid loves Adelaide and the Strikers, and we know how much he loves playing in the BBL, and we support him as he has treatment for this injury to ensure his long-term involvement in the game. Our list management and coaching staff will now look at our options for replacing Rashid for the upcoming season and a replacement player will be announced in due course,” the statement added.

Adelaide Strikers squad: Wes Agar, James Bazley*, Cameron Boyce, Alex Carey, Brendan Doggett*, Travis Head, Henry Hunt, Thomas Kelly, Chris Lynn, Ben Manenti, D’Arcy Short*, Matt Short, Henry Thornton, Jamie Overton, Adam Hose, Jake Weatherald, Harry Nielsen

Rashid Khan’s performance in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023

Rashid Khan last played for Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup earlier this month. He took 11 wickets in the tournament, at an economy rate of 4.48. It was a remarkable campaign for Afghanistan as they secured four wins from nine matches. They were also in contention to qualify for the knockouts. However, consecutive losses against Australia and South Africa hurt their chances. They finished the league stages sixth with eight points.
