Ravichandran Ashwin, former Indian cricketer posted a clarification tweet/post on X over his earlier remark that said, “Varun in early! Not ideal #ChampionsTrophyFinal.” People online mistook this as Ashwin criticising Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. Ashwin said that he was only referring to the fact that Varun coming in early meant India is in trouble as they had to bring their ace spinner too soon.

Ashwin said that this individual fan fare is madness. This is not the first time the Indian spinner’s tweet/post on X has been misunderstood. Varun Chakravarthy has been one of the best spinners for India in the limited overs format in the last few months. Sharma likely called him early to contain the game and get an upper hand over New Zealand.

While many have assumed that Ashwin was criticising Rohit Sharma, it is important to understand that the two have a great bonding on the field. Even off the field, Rohit and Ashwin have always looked on great terms. This makes it highly unlikely that if Ashwin had something negative to say for Sharma, he would do so in the public.

Chakravarthy bowled 10 overs and only gave 45 runs and took two wickets. Sharma’s decision to bring Chakravarthy early proved to be a great one.
Ravi Ashwin has played more than a 100 test matches for India, and over 116 ODI (one day internationals) games. In fact, Ashwin was a part of the Champions Trophy 2013 Indian squad that won the tournament under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.
