Team India's head coach Ravi Shastri has confirmed the opening combination for the second Test against New Zealand starting from February 29 (Saturday) at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Virat Kohli & Co will look to end the series on level terms after a ten-wicket drubbing at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.

Indian batters struggled to get going in the first Test getting all out for 165 runs in the first innings followed by 191 runs in the second essay. Mayank Agarwal was the only bright star in otherwise what was a poor effort from the batters in a long time. Soon after the game, there were speculations about Prithvi Shaw's place in the playing XI.

Shaw missed Thursday's training session due to a swelling on his left foot. The Mumbai opener underwent a blood test on Thursday to ascertain the reason for the swelling. Reports suggested that Shubman Gill is all set to make his international Test debut at the Hagley Oval. However, Ravi Shastri has all but confirmed that Shubman Gill will have to wait a bit longer to get his maiden Test cap.

Speaking on the eve of the second Test, Ravi Shastri said that Prithvi Shaw is fit and is “good” for the second Test. Shaw also returned to nets on the eve of the game and looked fine to play the upcoming game. He will be keen to deliver the goods for his side after failing to impress in the first Test returning with scores of 16 and 14 in the two innings.

India are likely to make one change in the playing XI with Ravindra Jadeja slated to come in for Ravichandran Ashwin for the second Test in Christchurch.
