Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin put up a good bowling performance for Team India in the fourth and final test of the 2023 Border Gavaskar Trophy on Friday, March 10 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He took yet another five-wicket haul as Team India bowled out Australia for 480 runs in the first innings. The spinner broke several records in the innings.

Ravichandran Ashwin got India the first breakthrough by dismissing Travis Head. However, he then had to toil hard in the field to get the reward. The visitors dominated most of the sessions so far in the match. Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green put together a 200-run stand for the fifth wicket to take their team to a solid position.

However, India made a great comeback on the back of Ravichandran Ashwin’s performance. He broke the Khawaja-Green partnership by dismissing the latter for 114 runs. The off-spinner then did not look back and spun a web around the Aussie batters. He sent back Alex Carey, Mitchell Starc, and Todd Murphy. Ashwin finished the inning with 6/91 in his 47.2 overs.

With this performance, Ravichandran Ashwin went past Anil Kumble to become the Indian bowler with the most wickets in Border Gavaskar Trophy. He has 113 wickets from 22 matches, at an average of 28.10. Overall, Ashwin and Lyon are the joint-leading wicket-takers in the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
