Harbhajan Singh has always been one of the criticisers of Ravichandran Ashwin. Time and time again, the veteran spinner has made strong statements on the fellow off-spinner. Now, he makes a U-turn and called Ashwin as the best off-spinner in the world and also stated that he isn’t jealous of the Chennai lad.

Ravichandran Ashwin is the best Offie:

In front of thousands of cricket fans on an Instagram Live session, Harbhajan called Ashwin ‘the best off-spinner in the world right now’, while also admitting Nathan Lyon of Australia as one of the best in the business. Harbhajan clarified that there hasn’t been the case of jealous ever.

“A lot of people would say that there is a lot of jealousy between us. But I would want to call out to those detractors and say there is nothing like that. Ashwin is the best Offie in the world right now. I also rate Nathan Lyon highly”, Harbhajan said.

Both Ashwin and Lyon made their debut in 2011 and went on to become the top-two off-spinners in the world. While the Chennai spinner has been helped with some assistance from the pitches in the sub-continent, the Australian has performed beyond expectations on the pitches that favour fast bowlers.

Ashwin is a legend in the making – Harbhajan Singh

Speaking of Lyon, Harbhajan said that the fact that he plies trade in Australia, where pitches offer a lot less to the spinners in comparison to India, makes him give the Aussie a lot of respect. The 39-year-old also went on to say that Ashwin is legend in making.

“The Aussie is also up there because he has done extremely well for himself given the fact that he comes from Australia where the pitches hardly aid spinners. But Ashwin is a legend in the making. Going forward, I only want him to stay fit because he is capable of taking a lot more wickets and could finish among the highest wicket-takers in the world,” he signed off.
