Team India’s Ravichandran Ashwin was spotted having some fun with teammate Devdutt Padikkal during the recently concluded Brisbane Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. While Ashwin was sitting in the dugout, a fan shouted “ee sala cup namde” (this time the cup is ours) at him.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fan also encouraged Ashwin to join the franchise in the future. After hearing the chant, the senior player cheekily pointed to Padikkal, who was bought by RCB in the IPL 2025 auction. You can watch the video here:

Notably, Ravichandran Ashwin was not part of the Indian playing XI for the Brisbane Test. After the match, the 38-year-old announced his retirement from international cricket. He concluded his career as India’s second-highest wicket-taker across formats, with 765 wickets.
“As a cricketer, I still have some fire left in me”- Ashwin on his retirement
Ravichandran Ashwin confirmed that although he was retiring from international cricket, he would continue playing in franchise cricket. He mentioned that he still had some cricket left in him and wished to display his skills at the club level. Reflecting on his retirement, Ashwin said (via 7cricket):
“This will be my last day as an Indian cricketer in all formats at the international level. I feel there is a bit of punch in me left as a cricketer, but I would like to showcase that at club-level cricket. This will be the last day, and I have had a lot of fun.”
“I must say I have played and made a lot of memories alongside Rohit and several of my other teammates, although I have lost a few of them now over the last few years. We are the last bunch of OGs if we can say that, left in the dressing room.”
“I’ll mark this as my final day at this level. I’m grateful to many, especially the BCCI, my teammates, and coaches. A special thanks to Rohit, Virat, Ajinkya, and Pujara for their crucial catches that helped me achieve my wickets over the years.”
