Team India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has tested positive for COVID-19 and has not traveled to the UK yet. The entire Indian contingent landed in the UK a few days back for the rescheduled fifth Test against England, scheduled to take place at Edgbaston from July 1 to 5.

Ashwin is currently in quarantine and will only join the squad after meeting all protocol requirements. The rest of the Indian team had left for England on June 16. They had their first training session on Sunday in Leicester.

India will play a four-day warm-up game against Leicestershire in the lead up to their Test against England. While Ravichandran Ashwin is still in contention to be available for the Test match, he might miss the practice game.

“Ashwin hasn’t travelled with the squad to UK as he has tested positive for Covid-19 before departure,” a BCCI source told PTI. “But we are hopeful that he will recover well in time before the Test match starts on July 1. However he might miss the practice game against Leicestershire.”

Rahul Dravid yet to join the squad in Leicester

India head coach Rahul Dravid, players Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer has reached London after finishing the T20I series against South Africa. They will now travel to Leicester and join the squad later today.

The rest of the squad is currently training under the watchful eyes of bowling coach Paras Mhambrey and batting coach Vikram Rathour.

Following the one-off Test, India will also lock horns against England in a three-math T20I series followed by as many ODIs. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to announce squads for the limited-overs format.
