Ravindra Jadeja Passes Fitness test, Shreyas Iyer Uncertain For Nagpur Test: Reports

India has got a major boost ahead of the first Test match against Australia to be played at VCA Stadium, Nagpur on 9 Feb 2023. On other hand, Shreyas Iyer looks uncertain and is likely to be ruled out of the first Test.

Ravindra Jadeja’s presence will help the Indian team with all-around abilities. The Indian team is going to a preparatory camp for the Border Gavaskar series from 3 Feb onwards. Shreyas Iyer has been the key player for the Indian team against the spinners and would be a big miss against the Australians in the first Test match.

The four Test matches are part of the ICC 2021/23 Test Championship cycle and India needs to win the series for direct qualification for the grand final to be played on 7 June onwards at the Oval.

Ravindra Jadeja was seen in Indian colours during the 2022 Asia Cup. He was ruled out for a long layoff missing major tournaments like T20 World Cup 2022 and other assignments. Jadeja was included on the tour of Bangladesh but to a knee injury, he could not take part in the series.

He took part in the Ranji Trophy match for Saurashtra against Tamil Nadu. Jadeja did not perform well with ball and bat during the first innings, he rose to the occasion with 7 wickets giving away 53 runs. It was a remarkable performance by the star allrounder.

Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the first Test against Australia. He suffered a back injury before the ODI series against New Zealand. Iyer did not play the 3 ODI and 3 T20I matches against the Kiwis side due to a back injury. He is currently at rehabilitation in NCA, Bangalore, and making efforts to be available for the second Test match to be played at New Delhi from 17th Feb onwards.

India will be looking to dominate the Australian team with a top-quality bowling line-up including Mohammed Shami, Mohammad Siraj, and Umesh Yadav. They will rely on R Ashwin, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav to create pressure on Australian batters.

India would be hoping to have Shreyas Iyer ready for the second Test. Iyer and Ashwin put on record unbeaten 71 runs for the 8th wicket to help Men in Blue win against Bangladesh at Mirpur by 3 wickets.
