Ravindra Jadeja picks 7 wickets in 2nd innings against Tamil Nadu Ranji Trophy 2022/23

Ahead of the much-awaited Test series against Australia, Ravindra Jadeja showed his bowling skills picking 7 wickets on 3rd day against Tamil Nadu played at M Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on 26 January 2023. This was the last league match of the 2022/23 Ranji Trophy season.

Ravindra Jadeja was named the captain of Saurashtra for this tie. He picked up 1 wicket for 48 runs in his 24 overs in the first innings. During his disciplined bowling effort in the first innings, Jadeja grabbed the wicket of well-set Baba Indrajith.

Saurashtra was dismissed cheaply in the first innings for 192 giving Tamil Nadu a substantial lead. The second innings saw Ravindra Jadeja returning to his elements picking up 7 wickets. Jadeja grabbed the wicket of Shahrukh Khan, Baba Indrajith, Pradosh Paul, Vijay Shankar, S Ajith Ram, M Siddarth, and Sandeep Warrier.

Khan, Indrajith, S Ajith Ram, and M Siddarth’s stumps were shattered. Pradosh Paul and Vijay Shankar was given LBW. Sandeep Warrier provided a simple catch to DA Jadeja. It was a remarkable performance by Jadeja ending with figures of 7 for 53.

Ravindra Jadeja showed his consistency with disciplined lines and lengths not allowing the Tamil Nadu batters to score runs easily. He went at an economy rate of 3.10 runs per over but kept Saurashtra in the game. Thanks to his brilliant spell and DA Jadeja’s 3 wickets, Saurashtra bowled Tamil Nadu for 133 in 36.1 overs. Jadeja was coming back to check his fitness after a long layoff due to an injury.

Chasing down 266 runs to win, Saurashtra ended the 3rd day on 4 for 1. They require 262 runs on the final day. Saurashtra is currently at the top spot in Group B and would look to win outright. Ravindra Jadeja failed to contribute much to the first innings with 15 off 23 balls. He would be looking to provide valuable runs chasing down this target.

The star all-rounder has been named in the squad for the first two Test matches against Australia starting on 9th February. With this performance, Jadeja could be included in the playing XI for the first Test match to be played in Nagpur.
