Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Tim David has been fined 30 per cent of his match fees and handed two demerit points for making an offensive gesture during the IPL 2026 clash against Mumbai Indians.
A video of the Australian making the gesture went viral on social media following RCB’s dramatic last-ball victory at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium on Sunday, May 10.
Tim David endured a disappointing outing with the bat during the chase, getting dismissed for a golden duck by Corbin Bosch in the 16th over. The match then produced a tense finish, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rasikh Salam Dar scrambling two runs off the final ball to seal a thrilling two-wicket win for RCB.
The RCB dressing room erupted in celebration after the victory, which lifted the defending champions to the top of the points table. During the animated scenes, Tim David was caught on camera making the obscene gesture. According to a report by the The Times of India:
“RCB’s batter Tim David has been booked under Article 2.6 (showing an offensive gesture) during @RCBTweets match vs @mipaltan yesterday at Raipur. He will be penalized 30% of his match fees and given 2 demerit points.”
Andy Flower, the head coach of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, was also fined 15 per cent of his match fee for using an audible obscenity during a heated exchange with the fourth umpire following a third-umpire decision in the closing moments of the match.

Tim David was viewed as the long-term successor to Kieron Pollard in the finisher’s role after being signed by Mumbai Indians for ₹8.25 crore. In his debut season with the franchise, he scored 186 runs in eight matches at an impressive strike rate of 216.28.
Although he followed it up with two solid seasons, MI released him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. The franchise chose not to bid for him during the event, allowing Royal Challengers Bengaluru to acquire him for ₹3 crore.
