Veteran Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara believes that Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL 2025 title win marks the beginning of a successful era for the franchise. He suggested that RCB could become a dominant force in the league in the coming seasons. In the IPL 2025 final held in Ahmedabad on June 3, RCB secured a six-run victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS).
After being put in to bat, they posted a total of 190/9 and then held PBKS to 184/7, clinching their first-ever IPL title. Speaking on Star Sports, Pujara shared his views on RCB’s prospects when former Indian fast bowler Varun Aaron asked for his opinion following their historic win.
“I think this is just the beginning. They have a great future ahead. This is kind of trying to take the monkey off the back. They know they have the title now, and they have the team and the capability. So, going forward, I think it will be a tough team to beat,” he responded.
Pujara mentioned that RCB’s triumph in IPL 2025 has finally silenced doubts about their capability to win the title.
“You have been part of the RCB environment. So you know what it takes to win a title. When the team doesn’t win the title, even though you play good cricket throughout the IPL, there is always a question mark. However, now, since they have won the title, I think they have a bright future ahead,” he observed.
“I only had one doubt” – Pujara on picking RCB as IPL 2025 winners
During the same conversation, Cheteshwar Pujara was questioned about whether he had foreseen RCB winning the IPL 2025 title.
“When the IPL started, RCB were among my four playoff teams, and the way they started, it seemed like RCB could reach the top two. I had only one doubt, that RCB would definitely reach the top two, but whether they would win the final or not,” he replied.
The ex-RCB cricketer further stated that there would no longer be any skepticism regarding the team’s potential to secure more IPL championships in the future.
“That doubt existed earlier because they hadn’t won a title yet. But now they have. It’s a major milestone, and going forward, no one will question whether RCB can make it to the final or win the trophy. With the kind of team and balance they have, people will now believe they can win more titles,” Pujara remarked.
