Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) head coach Andy Flower has confirmed that Virat Kohli is not injured despite being hit on the hand while fielding during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Gujarat Titans (GT). Kohli hurt his finger while attempting to stop a boundary near the ropes at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, April 2.
Virat Kohli had a quiet outing in RCB’s first home game, scoring just seven runs before falling to Arshad Khan in the second over. Despite a shaky start, RCB posted 170, but GT’s top order dominated the chase. Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler accelerated in the 12th over, leaving RCB unable to recover.
Sudharsan attempted a sweep shot on the fifth delivery, sending the ball toward deep mid-wicket, where Kohli was fielding. He misjudged the stop, allowing the ball to reach the boundary and immediately grabbed his hand, showing discomfort.
“Virat looks fine, he’s okay,” RCB head coach Andy Flower stated during the post-match press conference (via India Today).
“Losing the Powerplay Puts You in Trouble” – Andy Flower On RCB’s Eight-Wicket Defeat to GT in IPL 2025
RCB’s perfect start to IPL 2025 came under immediate threat as GT’s pacers caused early destruction. Former RCB pacer Mohammed Siraj delivered a fiery spell of 3/19 on his old home ground, dismantling the top order.
The Rajat Patidar-led side found themselves struggling at 42/4 by the seventh over before Jitesh Sharma (33) and Liam Livingstone (54) steadied the innings, helping them post a respectable total of 169/8.
“We lost some wickets trying to be aggressive in the powerplay; that was obviously a big swing in the game. Often if you lose powerplay, you are in trouble. We had to fight hard, thought we scrapped really hard after the powerplay. Tim David, Jitesh and Livingstone did well to give us a total we could challenge them,” Flower said in the same interview.
