Ruturaj Gaikwad of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was dismissed by a stunning catch from Jitesh Sharma in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 semifinal on January 16. The Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) social media team took a playful dig at the CSK captain after his departure.
The remark came after an event in Bengaluru last month, where Gaikwad made a humorous comment that quickly went viral. Following a microphone malfunction, the CSK opener was overheard saying:
“Might be someone from RCB.”
RCB referenced the same comments after their recent acquisition, Jitesh, pulled off a spectacular diving catch to dismiss Gaikwad in the Vijay Hazare Trophy semifinal. Sharing the video of the remarkable catch, the Bengaluru-based team posted on X:
“‘It is someone from RCB’ Jitesh doing what he does best!”

In addition to his wicketkeeping, Jitesh Sharma also made an impact with the bat in the knockout match. The right-handed batter hit a brisk half-century, accumulating 51 runs from 33 balls.
On the other hand, Ruturaj Gaikwad struggled with the bat. The Maharashtra captain was dismissed for a mere seven runs. Vidarbha secured a dominant 69-run win to book their spot in the final.
“It seems like the ideal team for me”- Jitesh Sharma on signing with RCB for IPL 2025
Punjab Kings (PBKS) released Jitesh Sharma ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, where the talented wicketkeeper became a hot commodity. This led to a bidding war between RCB, CSK, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and Delhi Capitals (DC).
Initially, he was bought by Bengaluru for ₹7 crore, but RCB secured him by raising their bid to an impressive ₹11 crore after PBKS used the Right to Match card. Delighted to join the team and play alongside Virat Kohli, Jitesh Sharma expressed his excitement on RCB’s official website:
“It will be great to play under Virat Kohli. I would love to play under him because he is so energetic and enthusiastic—it can push my limits.”
”A person who is always involved in the game can inspire me to push my game further. I think I’ll try to learn from Kohli’s consistency and how he has kept himself fit and motivated over all these years.”
“And I wasn’t expecting anything from the auction. I was just hoping and praying to join a good team where I could play freely and express myself. I am incredibly grateful and thankful to God that I went to RCB—it feels like the perfect team for me.”
Jitesh Sharma has accumulated 730 runs in 40 IPL matches, maintaining a strike rate of 151.14. He will next take the field in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 final between Vidarbha and Karnataka in Baroda on Saturday, January 18.
