The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) went all out for Glenn Maxwell in the IPL auction. The franchise eventually acquired the star Australian all-rounder for a whopping Rs. 14.25 crores for IPL 2021. Now the franchise has released a video of how RCB purposed to buy Glenn Maxwell in the IPL auction.

The RCB coach Mike Hesson always wanted Maxwell in the side as he has an astonishing strike rate of 161 in the middle orders. Last season RCB lacked a power player in the middle who could support Ab de Villiers and finish matches for the side. Therefore the franchise conducted several mock auctions and formed a strategy to buy the enigmatic Glenn Maxwell for IPL 2021.

“The reason why we like him is that he’s the most dangerous in overs 10-15. Since 2014 in the middle overs, his average is 28 with a strike rate of 161.5. That would do us beautifully,” Hesson said about Maxwell in the video.

“And he can be a bowling option. We need somebody in that top 6 that can bowl 3-4 overs, but Maxwell can bowl two. Those numbers are exceptional”, Hesson added.

The mock auction gave the RCB management an idea that Maxwell will again go for more than Rs. 10 crores in the auction. Hesson also predicted that apart from RCB, Chennai Super Kings will also be interested to buy Maxwell. This is what exactly happened in the auction as RCB and CSK went against each other to rope in Maxwell for the upcoming season.

Eventually, RCB got the benefit of their bigger purse than CSK as they acquired Maxwell for Rs. 14.25 crores which was the third-highest bid in the auction. Now, RCB will be hoping that Maxwell is at his destructive best in IPL 2021 and he can inspire the franchise to lift their maiden IPL title.
