RCB Star’s Emotional Answer To Reporter Steals The Spotlight In WCL 2025

A video clip from a recent interview featuring South African and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) legend AB de Villiers has gone viral on social media. During the conversation, the 41-year-old was introduced by the reporter as one of the most beloved “non-Indian” athletes among Indian fans.

In response, de Villiers gave a touching reply, saying he felt like an Indian himself. Widely adored across India, the cricketing icon even dubs some of his YouTube videos in Hindi to connect with his Indian audience. Here’s what de Villiers had to say when referred to as a “non-Indian” in his chat with Sports Tak:

“What do you mean non-Indian? I am Indian.”

A fan shared the interview clip on X on Sunday, July 27. As of now, the post has racked up over 1.5 lakh views on the platform.

AB de Villiers, who retired in 2021, is back on the field as South Africa Champions’ captain in WCL 2025. He leads the run charts with 182 runs in 3 innings, including a sensational unbeaten 116 off 51 balls in a 10-wicket win over England Champions.

AB de Villiers Speaks On Former RCB Teammate Kohli’s Test Retirement

In the same interview, AB de Villiers was asked whether Virat Kohli’s decision to retire from Test cricket came as a surprise to him. Kohli had announced the end of his illustrious red-ball career in May, just before India’s ongoing five-match Test series in England.

AB de Villiers, a longtime friend of Virat Kohli, urged fans to appreciate and celebrate the iconic batter’s remarkable journey. He mentioned he was pleased that Kohli chose a path he felt was right for both himself and his loved ones. When questioned about Kohli’s Test retirement, De Villiers responded:

“I am just happy for him that he has made his own decision. Obviously, that is something that has been in his heart or on his mind for a while. I can’t speak for him, but I am happy for him for standing up for what he felt was right for him and his family.”

“And I wish him all the best. At least we are still going to see him play cricket over the next few years, and I think everyone should celebrate that and him as a player and the huge impact that he has had on Indian cricket and the IPL. “
