Report: Inzamam-Ul-Haq Is About To Assume The Role Of Chief Selector For The Pakistan Team

Inzamam-ul-Haq is scheduled to assume the role of Pakistan team chief selector, while director Mickey Arthur and head coach Grant Bradburn will find out next week if they will continue as members of the national selection committee.

Inzamam-ul-Haq, the ex-Test captain, is poised to become the new chief selector of the Pakistan team. The current director, Mickey Arthur, and head coach, Grant Bradburn, will learn about their status in the national selection committee soon.

A source from the Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed that Inzamam has agreed to take on the role of paid chief selector once more, having previously held the position from 2016 to 2019.

“The Cricket Technical Committee members including Misbah ul Haq, Inzamam and Muhammad Hafeez have been discussing the new selection committee and it is yet to be decided whether Arthur and Bradburn should remain members on it,” the source told PTI.

He mentioned that Misbah would seek input from captain Babar Azam on the team director and head coach’s inclusion in the selection panel and then present his recommendation to the board chairman, Zaka Ashraf.

“Once Babar’s views are taken, the Cricket Technical Committee will also finalize its recommendation for the Chairman.”

Inzamam-ul-Haq, the former Test captain, will become Pakistan’s new chief selector

The decision at hand is whether to appoint only Inzamam as the new chief selector or to completely overhaul the entire selection committee.

Under Najam Sethi’s leadership as head of the Cricket Management Committee (CMC), a revamped selection committee was introduced, comprising Arthur, Bradburn, and Hasan Cheema, who handles data analysts for the Pakistan team.

Haroon Rasheed, a member of the previous CMC, chaired the committee, and there were no other former Pakistani players included in it. According to the source, the significance of next week lies in the potential removal of Arthur and Bradburn from the selection process.

If this happens, they might not be pleased because they accepted coaching positions with the assurance from Sethi that they would be involved in selection decisions. Arthur hasn’t joined the team in person yet due to his coaching commitments with Derbyshire.

However, he is expected to lead the team during the latter part of the Asia Cup and will also be available for the World Cup in India and the tour to Australia later this year.

During his previous term, Inzamam collaborated with Arthur, and this period saw the team achieve victory in the 2017 Champions Trophy and the 2019 World Cup.
