Veteran English pacer James Anderson recently opened up about his retirement, revealing that it wasn’t a decision he made on his own. The 42-year-old, who holds the record for most Test wickets by a fast bowler, admitted he had no thoughts of stepping away from the game.
Anderson said he was feeling fit and performing well, and his mind was still set on competing at the highest level. However, things changed after a meeting with England Test coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes in July. The leadership duo informed him that the team was looking ahead to the future and needed to bring in younger players to build a long-term bowling attack.

Anderson described the meeting as one of the most difficult conversations of his career. Although respectful and supportive, both McCullum and Stokes made it clear that it was time for a transition.
