South Africa officially began their T20 World Cup campaign on a high as Rilee Rossouw became the first South African to score a century in the mega event. After sharing points with Zimbabwe in a rain-interrupted encounter, the Proteas thrashed Bangladesh by 104 runs in Sydney.

South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first. The Proteas ended with 205-5 at the end of their innings courtesy of Rossouw’s century and De Kock’s half-century.

The outstanding knock from Rilee Rossouw included seven fours and eight sixes, striking at 194.64. Earlier this year, he got a century against India, his first on the international platform. This year he has performed consistently in the T20 circuit, which led to him being recalled to the national set-up. In the T20 blast, he scored almost 700 runs at a staggering strike rate of 190.

Fans went gaga with Rossouw’s century against Bangladesh. Let’s look at some of the Twitter reactions to Rilee Rossouw’s performance today:

Given that the South Africans set a mammoth target, the Bangladeshi players required a miracle to achieve this target. The South African bowlers didn’t allow the batters to settle. Anrich Nortje was the standout bowler taking four wickets and conceding only ten runs in his 3.3 overs.

Along with him, Tabraiz Shamsi also picked up three wickets. Most of the bowlers were economical and restricted Bangladesh to 101. The Bangladeshi batters failed to make an impact and kept losing wickets regularly.

South Africa won this game by a significant margin of 104 runs, significantly boosting their Net Run Rate. They have a positive NRR of 5.2, which helps them during the later stages of the group stage.

Even though the Proteas won today, one of the concerns for them going into the tournament is the form of their captain, Temba Bavuma.
