India’s vice-captain Rishabh Pant etched his name into the record books by becoming the highest run-scoring visiting wicketkeeper-batter in a Test series in England. The landmark was achieved on Day 3 (Saturday, July 12) of the third Test at Lord’s. Resuming on 19, Pant got going with two crisp boundaries off Jofra Archer in the day’s opening over.
The left-hander went on to reach his fifty in style, launching Ben Stokes for a six off his 86th ball. Although he looked poised for a bigger score, Pant was run out for 74 just before the lunch break, having faced 112 deliveries and hit eight fours and two sixes.
With this knock, Pant’s series tally swelled to 416 runs from five innings at a remarkable average of 83.20, which includes two centuries and two half-centuries. In the process, he overtook New Zealand’s Tom Blundell, who had scored 383 runs in six innings at 76.60 during their 2022 England tour, to become the most prolific visiting wicketkeeper in a Test series in England.

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant also reached another milestone by taking his overall tally of sixes in Test cricket to 88, drawing level with Rohit Sharma for the second-highest by an Indian in the format. The record remains with Virender Sehwag, who hit 90 sixes in his 103-Test career.
Additionally, Pant equalled MS Dhoni’s record for the most 50-plus scores (8) by a visiting wicketkeeper in Tests played on English soil.
Pant, Rahul depart after impressive Day 3 knocks at Lord’s
India began Day 3 at 145/3 after 43 overs, with KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant continuing their solid partnership. The duo batted confidently through the morning, but just before lunch, Pant was run out for 74, ending a vital 141-run stand.
After the break, Rahul completed his century, becoming only the second Indian after Dilip Vengsarkar to score multiple hundreds at Lord’s. His knock, which included 13 boundaries, came to an end shortly after when he was dismissed by Shoaib Bashir for 100 off 177 deliveries.
At the latest update, India stood at 261/5 in 73 overs, with Ravindra Jadeja on 10 and Nitish Kumar Reddy yet to open his account.
