Former Team India skipper MS Dhoni has left a massive void to fill with his retirement from international cricket. Incidentally, he stepped aside from limited-overs cricket from August 15, earlier this year. As we still ponder who can fill in the big shoes, former batting coach Sanjay Bangar has picked Rishabh Pant as his replacement in terms of wicket-keeping.

Meanwhile, Pant lost his ODI spot to KL Rahul earlier this year during the series against Australia. Moreover, he has been largely inconsistent with the bat in the India colours. Although he was tipped to fill in shoes, but Rishabh Pant has struggled to live up to his potential.

The ongoing IPL will be the ideal platform for the Delhi cricket to reclaim his place. Pant has started his IPL 2020 campaign on a good note scoring 171 runs in five games at an average of 42.75 and a strike-rate of 139.02. He will be an important campaigner as Delhi Capitals continue their hunt for their maiden trophy.

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant has got the backing Sanjay Bangar, who said that the former is the ideal replacement of MS Dhoni in terms of wicket-keeper. The former India batting coach also added that Pant being a left-handed batsman will add a lot of dynamics to the squad.

“In terms of wicket-keeping, I think it would be Rishabh Pant. I think the way he started this year’s IPL and I think it is very important to have a left-hander as an option because for Team India when it comes to the middle order it helps to balance out the right-handers,” Bangar said on Star Sports show Cricket Connected.

Rishabh Pant will hope to continue his good run in IPL 2020 as the selectors are likely to sit next week to pick the squad for the upcoming tour of Australia. India play four-match Test series followed by a limited-overs series against the Aussies.
