India recently returned from England after one of their most exciting Test series in recent memory. The five-match series ended in a 2-2 draw and marked Shubman Gill’s debut as Test captain following Rohit Sharma’s retirement. The series featured several standout individual performances, backed by a strong overall team effort.
However, the series also raised a major concern: star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant suffered a broken ankle while attempting a reverse scoop off Chris Woakes. This injury is expected to sideline him for the upcoming Test series against the West Indies. According to Dainik Jagran, Pant will need an additional three to four weeks to fully recover, ruling him out of the two-match Test series starting on October 2.
He is also set to miss India’s white-ball tour of Australia, which includes three ODIs and five T20Is scheduled from October 19 to November 8. Rishabh Pant is expected to make his comeback in the home Test series against South Africa, starting on November 14.
How Rishabh Pant Got Injured?
Rishabh Pant suffered a serious injury while attempting a reverse scoop off Chris Woakes during the first innings of the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, Manchester. The ball struck his foot, causing severe pain and forcing him to be taken off the field on a golf cart. He was immediately ruled out of wicketkeeping duties for that Test and was also unavailable for the fifth Test.
Despite the injury, Pant displayed remarkable courage by coming out to bat with a broken toe. He went on to score a half-century, playing a key role in India’s total of 358.
Dhruv Jurel Set To Replace Rishabh Pant
With Rishabh Pant expected to miss India’s home Test series against the West Indies, Dhruv Jurel is likely to step in. The young wicketkeeper-batter recently impressed with a brilliant 140 off 197 balls, including 13 fours and 4 sixes, in the first unofficial Test against Australia A.
He also shared a massive 228-run partnership with Devdutt Padikkal, helping India A reach 531/7 declared in response to Australia A’s 532/6 declared.
