Former India all-rounder and a fielding coach have filed his application to become Team India’s next head coach. He has coached several teams in the last two decades and has a bundle of experience if he is handled the coaching job for the national team. Robin Singh also served as India’s fielding coach during 2007-09. He was also the head coach of India A and U 19 teams while also serving as an assistant coach with Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.

While speaking to Hindu, Robin Singh said that India needs a change in the coaching department as under Ravi Shastri India has lost all global tournaments in the last few years. Robin feels that it is the perfect time to get prepared for the 2023 World Cup which is slated to be played fully in India.

“Under the current coach, India has lost in the semifinals of two successive ODI World Cups, and in the last four stages of the World Twenty20 championship as well. Now is the time to prepare for the 2023 World Cup and a change could be good for the side.”

Robin Singh felt that as a coach one needs to be proactive and also pointed out that what he would have done differently during India’s defeat against New Zealand in the World Cup semi-final. “You got to transport yourself mentally into the game, put yourself in situations that the team and the players face, be a part of the moves, get into the players” mind. You can do this, only if you understand the game technically.

“With the ball moving around and India losing Rohit Sharma early, I would have held back Virat Kohli to the No. 4 slot. For that game, I would have picked another top-order batsman, Mayank Agarwal, at No. 3. M.S. Dhoni would have been No. 5 and he would have got more time. Kohli and Dhoni could have batted together. Then, we could have had the three power hitters, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja coming in.”
