Just a day after the franchises announced their retentions for the 2021 IPL season, it was announced that 2007 World T20 winning team member Robin Uthappa has been traded from Rajasthan Royals to Chennai Super Kings in an all-cash trade. The trade then became a subject of many memes on social media as Chennai Super Kings who have been nursing a team with an average over 30 for the last couple of years went on to sign Uthappa who will be turning 36 this year.

In the past, Robin Uthappa has played for as many as five franchises will now play for the Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming season. Prior to the trade, Robin played for the Rajasthan Royals last season where he didn’t really fare well since his batting position in the side was undecided throughout the tournament. In the starting few matches, he batted down the order whereas in the latter half of the tournament Robin was asked to open.

CSK Trade Robin Uthappa In An All-Cash Deal

Ahead of the 2020 IPL season, Kolkata Knight Riders had released Uthappa from their roster after a fairly mediocre performance in the 2018 and 2019 seasons. He was then bought by the Rajasthan Royals during the 2020 IPL auction for a sum of 3 crore rupees.

With both franchises confirming that the trade was an all-cash deal, the remaining purse of Chennai Super Kings will be 19.9 crore rupees whereas Rajasthan Royals will have 37.85 crores to spend in the 2021 IPL auction.

After the news of Robin Uthappa being traded to the Chennai Super Kings surfaced on social media. The news started making rounds with various jokes being cracked on Chennai Super Kings for picking another player who has crossed the age of 30.
