Team India fast bowler Akash Deep recently shared an interesting anecdote from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024–25, dating back to the third Test at the Gabba in Brisbane. Australia had posted a formidable 445 in their first innings, leaving India battling to avoid the follow-on.
Akash Deep played a crucial role in that effort, contributing a valuable knock that helped the visitors stay in the contest. In the 75th over, he struck Pat Cummins for a towering six, drawing applause from the Indian dugout, including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
The pacer later revealed that both senior batters were well aware of his ability to clear the ropes.
“Both Rohit and Kohli know that I hit a lot of sixes and they enjoy my batting a lot. But Gabba is a big ground and Australia’s fast bowlers do not like if anyone hits them for a six there. But we had to save the follow-on. I felt within that they were bowling short again and again, so I have to hit a six. They also enjoyed the confidence we showed,” he said in an interview with The Lallantop.
Akash Deep Shares Insight On Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma
In the same interview, Akash Deep further opened up about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He said he had rarely come across someone as positive and energetic as Kohli, and added that the former captain even spoke to him in his native Bhojpuri language.
“I have not seen a more positive and energetic person than him in my life. He is very humble and talks such nice things, which help you get ahead in life. The biggest thing is, he talks to me in Bhojpuri, so I enjoy it a lot. He tries to talk, and I also try to teach the players. He is decent at it,” he said.
Akash Deep has shared the dressing room with Kohli for India and at RCB in the IPL, where he played from 2022 to 2024. He also praised Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, highlighting his calm leadership and simple approach.
“He was very aware of the game, read the conditions well, and made things simple. I feel lucky to have made my Test debut under him, as he always gives clear instructions. For me, he has been the best captain of my life.”
