Rohit Sharma Returns To Limelight With Special Champions Trophy Honour At CEAT Cricket Awards

The 27th edition of the CEAT Cricket Rating (CCR) Awards was held in Mumbai on Tuesday, celebrating the achievements of cricketers and sports leaders from across the world. Former India captain Rohit Sharma was the centre of attention, making his first public appearance since being removed as India’s ODI captain. The 38-year-old received a special memento for leading India to a Champions Trophy victory earlier this year, marking the country’s second successive ICC trophy under his leadership after the T20 World Cup triumph in Barbados in June 2024.

Rohit was presented with the award by legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar. His removal as ODI captain was officially announced last Saturday during a press conference by chief selector Ajit Agarkar, with Shubman Gill named as the new leader. Rohit remains in the squad along with Virat Kohli, returning to international cricket for the first time since the Champions Trophy win in Dubai in March, with the upcoming three-match series against Australia beginning October 19.

Men’s and Women’s Cricket Standouts

In the men’s category, Sanju Samson emerged victorious as the T20I Batter of the Year, outperforming Asia Cup stars Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma, while Varun Chakravarthy was named T20I Bowler of the Year. Shreyas Iyer was honoured with the CEAT JioStar Award, and Kane Williamson and Matt Henry received the Men’s ODI Batter and Bowler of the Year awards, respectively.

In Tests, Prabath Jayasuriya was named Men’s Test Bowler of the Year, while Harry Brook took the Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year award. Harsh Dubey claimed the CEAT Domestic Cricketer of the Year award, and Temba Bavuma was recognised with the Award for Exemplary Leadership. India’s women cricketers dominated their respective categories, with Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma named Women’s Batter and Bowler of the Year, though both were absent due to the ongoing Women’s World Cup 2025 campaign in India.

Lifetime Achievements and Emerging Talent

The awards celebrated both cricketing legends and emerging talent, recognising remarkable contributions across the sport. Brian Lara was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award, while B.S. Chandrasekhar received the CEAT Lifetime Achievement Award, acknowledging their enduring impact on cricket.

Among the new generation, Angrish Raghuvanshi was named the Emerging Player of the Year, highlighting the promise of rising stars in Indian cricket. The CCR Awards once again showcased outstanding performances across international and domestic formats, celebrating achievements from established players and newcomers alike, with Rohit Sharma’s special recognition for leading India to the Champions Trophy drawing particular attention and making the night memorable.
