Rohit Sharma Reveals Reason For Nathan Coulter-Nile’s Exclusion From IPL 2020 Opener

When the toss took place today at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, there were many surprise inclusions and exclusions in both sides. Dwayne Bravo and Imran Tahir both star players of the CSK missing out from playing. But another decision that shocked is of that the exclusion of Australian speedster Nathan Coulter-Nile. His Aussie companion James Pattinson was picked ahead of him in the Mumbai Indians playing XI.

At the toss, Rohit revealed why Nathan Coulter-Nile missed out from the playing in favour of James Pattinson. As we saw, Mumbai picked Quinton De Kock, Kieron Pollard, James Pattinson, and Trent Boult as their four overseas.

Picking Boult and Pattinson meant Nathan Coulter-Nile wasn’t going to be a part of the playing XI. Speaking of the same, Rohit Sharma stated that the Coulter-Nile wasn’t fit to be available for selection.

“Ready to go. The way we’ve been playing cricket for the last couple of years has been good. All in all, we’ve had good preparation. Now all about execution.

Four overseas – Quinton, Pollard, Pattinson, Boult. NCN still not quite match fit with some niggles. Good opportunity for Pattinson who’s been bowling well for Australia,” said Rohit after the toss.

Meanwhile, speaking about the game, batting first, Mumbai Indians could only manage 162 runs despite a good start. Chennai pulled the brakes in the second half picking seven wickets and keeping their hard-hitters off the radar. Saurabh Tiwary played a fine knock but couldn’t capitalise on the start which hurt Mumbai badly.

In a contrast, Chennai Super Kings had the worst possible start losing two wickets for just six runs. But Ambati Rayudu and Faf du Plessis shared a match-winning partnership to take them home. While Rayudu got out after a well-made 71, du Plessis ensured they go home safely with five wickets in hand.
