As far as ODI chances dropped in 2023 onwards are concerned, Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, finds himself on top with the lowest percentage. With 26 fielders of 20+ chances, Rohit Sharma has caught only 12 out of 22 chances, with a caught percentage of 54.55. This stat raises a question mark for the Indian team, especially since Rohit Sharma is one of the most senior players in the squad.
Rohit Sharma’s flailing fielding has quite surprised everyone. He is a world-class batsman. Catching, however, is an area he really must work on if he hopes to contribute to matches for his side.
Others before him, such as Brandon King, Charith Asalanka, and Glenn Phillips, have suffered drops, but Rohit Sharma’s early statistics are worrisome. Pathum Nissanka, in contrast, has a 69.57 catch percentage, which significantly overshadows Rohit Sharma’s dropped catch percentage.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma dropped a catch during the most memorable moment of the 2025 Champions Trophy match against Bangladesh, denying Axar Patel his first international hat-trick.
This incident happened in the ninth over of Bangladesh’s first innings when Patel had already taken two wickets by dismissing Tanzid Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim. He then bowled a length ball to Jaker Ali, who edged it quickly to Rohit’s left at first slip. Now, Rohit’s reaction has gone viral on social media.
Rohit’s dropped catch seldom stands alone, but lately, he has not quite had the best of catching days. In fact, he has the distinction of being the player with the worst catching percentage of all time in ODIs and has barely managed to catch any since 2023.
Out of 22 chances, he has let 10 slip, giving him a miserly caught percentage of 54.55. This poses a problem for the Indian side, and Rohit will have to pull up his socks in order for the side to win more games.
