India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, faced disappointment in the initial two T20Is against Afghanistan, recording ducks. As the teams gear up for the decisive third T20I, scheduled for Wednesday, Rohit aims to conclude the series on a positive note, even as concerns linger about his T20I future.
Notably, Rohit had not participated in a T20I for over 14 months before this series, succumbing to a run-out in the first match due to a misunderstanding with Shubman Gill, and falling to Fazalhaq Farooqi’s delivery in the last game, where India secured the series.
Despite his batting challenges, Rohit maintains humility both on and off the field. A unique interaction surfaced when a traffic police officer in Indore, Ranjeet Singh, disclosed Rohit’s special message for him. Ranjeet, who had sought Rohit’s autograph, initially faced difficulties but shared on Facebook how Rohit, with the assistance of Team India’s bus driver, fulfilled his autograph request.
Ranjeet shares a picture with caption: “Love your energy. Wish you lot of success.”

Expressing satisfaction with the team’s performance, Rohit believes they have “ticked all boxes” in the first two games, commending players like Shivam Dube and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The T20 World Cup 2024 looms, intensifying the competition for the opening spot, with Rohit facing challenges from emerging talents like Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, among others.
Virat Kohli, returning to T20I after 14 months, showcased an aggressive approach in the match, contributing a brisk 29 off 16 balls before succumbing to Naveen-ul-Haq.
Rohit Sharma exclusively said: “The last two games, we’ve ticked a lot of boxes. They’ve had a great couple of years. Jaiswal has played Test cricket now and even T20. He has shown what he is capable of. He has the talent and has a great range of shots. Dube is a big guy, very powerful and can take on the spinners. That is his role and he has come out and played two crucial innings for us.”
