Rohit Sharma’s Heartfelt Tribute To 18 Years In International Cricket

Team India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, shared an emotional message on June 23, 2025, marking a major milestone in his cricketing journey — 18 years since his debut in international cricket. Posting a heartfelt story on Instagram with the caption “Forever grateful, 23.06.07” and an image of his Indian cricket helmet, Rohit reflected on his long-standing career that began in 2007 against Ireland in Belfast.

From being a young, promising batsman to becoming one of India’s greatest modern-day cricketers, Rohit’s journey has been filled with memorable performances, major tournament wins, and inspirational leadership.

From Debutant to Record-Breaking Batsman

Rohit’s career statistics are a testament to his consistency and excellence across formats. With nearly 19,700 runs in 499 international matches, he has etched his name in the record books. In ODIs, he scored 11,168 runs, boasting an average of 48.76, and smashed 32 centuries, including three double centuries, with his iconic 264-run knock still the highest individual ODI score to date.

In the T20I format, Rohit scored 4,221 runs with a strike rate of over 140, becoming the top run-scorer in T20I history. He also holds the record for five centuries in the format, the most by any player. His Test career has also been impressive, contributing over 4,300 runs with 12 hundreds, and being one of the top performers in India’s World Test Championship campaigns.

A Legacy of Leadership and Trophies

As captain, Rohit has led India through a golden era. His leadership saw India win the T20 World Cup in 2024, ending a 13-year ICC trophy drought, and later clinched the Champions Trophy in 2025. Under his guidance, India also reached the finals of both the World Test Championship and the 2023 ODI World Cup.

His captaincy record includes 42 wins in 56 ODIs and 49 wins in 62 T20Is, reflecting his calm demeanour and tactical brilliance. Although he retired from T20Is after winning the World Cup, his legacy as both a leader and player continues to inspire millions.
