India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma faces an uncertain future in Test cricket due to his poor form with the bat in the BGT 2024-25. As per a particular report, Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma might be quitting the Test format of cricket. There has been worry about when the 36-year-old will be able to continue performing for the team in Test cricket.
India’s new chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, who is the head of the BCCI selection committee, may have uncomfortable conversations with Rohit about his Test career. It is believed the talks are imminent, with the selectors hoping for a quick solution to the problem before the next Test series. The absence or retirement of Rohit Sharma would also create a problem in the Indian team when it comes to the replacement of the latter as the captain of the team.
Rohit Sharma is scheduled to retire following the Sydney Test:

In a PTI report, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar is at present in Melbourne, where he may have serious talks with Rohit Sharma about his place in the Test team. These meetings are expected to center on Rohit’s part inside the team, especially if India will not make it to the third successive WTC finals. There are growing speculations that Rohit might be leaving Tests after the final Test between India and Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground.
There has been some debate over Rohit Sharma batting in the middle order, where he looks quite uncomfortable. It was on record that when Rohit was out of the Perth Test, he was not very keen to let go of the opening spot to KL Rahul. This saw him dropped for Rohit to be included at the top of the order in the Melbourne Test match. KL Rahul, who was originally an opener, was eventually demoted to No. 3.
The report recommends that Rohit’s unwillingness to switch to a new batting position has become an issue for selectors to solve. During the time when the team management wants the WTC final spot, the management may have to consider some tough questions on Rohit’s place in Test cricket. The crux of the top-order discussions happening between Ajit Agarkar and Rohit Sharma will be interesting to watch in the following days.
