Rookie Indian Wicketkeeper Indrani Roy Shares MS Dhoni’s Advice

Indrani Roy is the newest entrant to the Indian women’s team that has been announced for the upcoming tour to England. Hailing from Jharkhand, she followed the footsteps of MS Dhoni and went onto become a keeper-batsman. She started her career with Bengal in U-19 cricket before moving to Jharkhand in 2014. Roy played for the India Blue cricket team, and a year later, also played for India C. In the 2020–21 season, Roy scored two unbeaten centuries in the senior women’s one-day tournament. Roy finished the season as the leading run-scorer in the tournament.

After her maiden India call-up, she spoke about how MS Dhoni has played an inspirational role in shaping up her career. Speaking to Sportstar, the Indian cricketer revealed that she had a long conversation with Dhoni on how to improve her game. Roy said that the legendary skipper had advised her to improve her reflexes and movement in the five-meter radius.

Indrani Roy Shares Tips From MS Dhoni

“For wicketkeepers, that’s a key thing and he advised me that I should try and get better. That helped me. Learning a thing or two from a legend like Mahi Sir is a privilege and his advice actually helped me improve my game. Every time I hit the ground, I try to remember his tips. “Hard work has paid off. I am looking forward to sharing the dressing room with the senior players and learning from them. This will be my first outing with the national team and if I get a chance in the final XI, I will try and do my best” Roy was quoted as saying.

The BCCI selection committee announced the Indian women squad for their upcoming tour against England. The tour takes place between June 16 and July 15. The one-off Test begins on June 16, after which the ODIs and T20Is follow. India last played a Test in November 2014, against South Africa in Mysore. Mithali Raj will lead the Test and the ODI side while Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the T20I outfit.
