Rovman Powell Rues the Missed Opportunity in the 2nd T20I

West Indies all-rounder Rovman Powell is of the opinion that had the 2nd T20I gone on till the 20th over, his team could have beaten India and levelled the 3 match series. When rain brought down curtains to the game, Windies needed to score 70  of 27 deliveries with Kieron Pollard and  Shimron Hetmyer at the crease. The match stopped due to lightning and it didn’t start again. India was declared the eventual winners by 22 runs under D/L method.

The target was daunting from that situation but Powell felt that it could have been done with some exceptional power hitters in their ranks. “I think we had sufficient wickets in hand,” Powell said after the game. “We had Kieron Pollard and (Shimron) Hetmyer at the crease, and Carlos Brathwaite and Keemo Paul to come in. I think those are guys that could have brought it to them. I guess in the end India are runaway winners but we don”t look at it and say we were far behind.”

Powell stated that it was a better wicket t bat on from the 1st day and with some exceptional hitters in their ranks “I think the wicket was a little bit better,” Powell said. “It came onto the bat a little more. It didn”t spin as much or it wasn”t as slow as yesterday. As a team, I just thought we were an over behind. If the game had finished, we probably would have won or come very close.”

Rovman Powell scored a sensational half-century in the 2nd T20I which kept West Indies in the game for a considerate amount of time. “I”m comfortable with the ground,” he said. “It has been my home ground for maybe the last year or two with regards to the CPL. So I”ve played a lot of cricket here. I think it has got very good facilities and I feel at home whenever I come here.”

India has already sealed the series 2-0 but Powell feels there isn’t much difference between the two sides. the 3rd T20I will be played in Guyana tomorrow. “What we will say is that the team that is heading to Guyana, we”re looking to put our best foot forward,” he said. “We think this Indian team is beatable and it”s just for us to string together good performances to show people that.”
