The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured a historic victory in the IPL 2026 Grand Final, defeating the Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 31. A disciplined bowling performance followed by a clinical batting display allowed the franchise to claim consecutive Indian Premier League titles.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar won the toss and elected to field first under heavy evening dew. The decision proved correct as the Bengaluru pacers found early movement. Opening bowler Josh Hazlewood provided the initial breakthrough by dismissing the dangerous Jos Buttler for 12.

Soon after, Bhuvneshwar Kumar removed Gujarat captain Shubman Gill for 28 runs, breaking the core of the Titans top order. Sai Sudharsan offered some resistance with a steady 42 runs off 34 deliveries, but he struggled to accelerate against high-quality spin.

All-rounder Krunal Pandya delivered a highly economical spell in the middle overs, finishing with excellent figures of 2 wickets for 24 runs in his four overs. A late cameo of 31 runs from Rahul Tewatia managed to push the Gujarat Titans to a modest total of 158/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

Clinical Chase Seals the Championship

Chasing a target of 159, Royal Challengers Bengaluru established a solid foundation. Veteran opening batsman Virat Kohli anchored the innings with a composed 46 runs off 38 balls, hitting four boundaries and a six. The team management also successfully introduced Phil Salt into the playing eleven, who scored a rapid 24 runs to maintain a high run rate during the Powerplay.

Although Gujarat’s premier spinner Rashid Khan claimed two quick wickets for 28 runs to create brief tension, Rajat Patidar ensured there were no further setbacks. Patidar played a captain’s knock, remaining unbeaten on 52 runs off 35 deliveries. He hit the winning runs in the 19th over, guiding RCB to 161/5 and securing the championship.
